After some research I have solved the issue by switching my PC off and disconnecting the drive, from there I rebooted without the drive. I then simply repeated the process of switching my PC off and reconnecting the drive and rebooting. Voila, the drive now works successfully. The drive was connected during the upgrade to Windows 10, and this has in someway impeded detection.
