Restoring degraded soils and remediating contaminat ed s ites A degraded soil has lost partially or completely its capacity to provide its multiple functions and services. We need to know more about soils 5. Enabling the transition to healthy soils 6. The recovery of the minor roads net could contribute to the maintenance and to the defence of the territory by reducing the slope abandonment: rural paths, trekking paths, bridleways - potentially represents a strategic element to strengthen or recover connections between more populated areas and areas with the greatest degree of naturalness, between areas subject to excessive anthropogenic load and areas subject to a move away.

At the outset, the study is now working at evaluating the proposal of new uses of the network of secondary and rural routes that have been interpreted as key connection of a potential territorial green infrastructure; such roads may be designed as ecological corridors, able to connect existing core areas AMP, ZPS and Nature areas , the cultural hubs Saracen towers, fishing villages, historic villas and the stepping zones agricultural areas, olive, orange, vineyards.

The analysis, therefore, refers to both the entire network of trails crossing the Sorrento Peninsula, both the single path, which is analysed as composed by human-made elements and natural resource.

This connective network represents an important source of ecosystem services support services, control, supply, culture that are essential for biodiversity conservation, for food production, for the hydro-geological structure. In addition, the reduction of fire risk enhances the reduction of the rock slides risk since the maintenance of vegetation - and then of the root system - has a fundamental role for the stability of the coastal slopes Vigo Majello, Further, the accessibility improvement to the coastal landscape cause positive economic effects even in the short run: it activates opportunities for the ecotourism development and for new economies based on the sustainable use of local resources; in the long run, it reduces risks to both environmental and cultural heritage.

Besides, the network of minor roads supports ecosystem services locally and increases the values of natural resources. In terms of territorial network system, it could facilitate the creation of a green infrastructure at regional scale, that can contribute to preserve and keep the ecological efficiency of slopes and coasts areas through the construction of an eco-cultural network whose benefits goes from risk reduction to the increase of socio-economic.

The analysis of the coastal accessibility of the Sorrento peninsula has highlighted the existing relationships between rural paths and the crossed areas agricultural, natural, SIC and ZPS areas, hilly areas, coastal areas.

Such relationships are based on specific performances dimensional, morphological, functional , including regulating of hydrographical system and the enhancement of cultural heritage. In order to this, the enhancement of rural paths in the Sorrento Peninsula can contribute to mending the continuity between coast and inland, and to better balancing the anthropogenic load Oppido, Figure 4: Integrate management model At the end of the first phase of the study, we recognize the need to recover and maintain the secondary system of accessibility as part of proactive management of the coastal areas in terms of maintenance, safeguarding and development.

The strategic role of minor roads has been recently underlined by the Regional Law no. Il Mediterraneo, in particolare, rappresenta un paesaggio costiero e culturale di grande interesse, significativo per la sua attitudine a divenire volano di sviluppo locale nelle prospettive delineate dalle strategie europee attraverso le misure Horizon - Cultural heritage as a driver for sustainable growth e EU Integrated Maritime Strategy- Blue Growth strategy.
